Brick Township Police are Seeking Two Men After Shots Were Fired
According to police, three bullets were fired at a car stopped at the Routes 70 and 88 intersection on Saturday night in what officials described as a "road rage incident."
According to Brick police Sgt. Jim Kelly, the driver was not hurt, but one bullet was found from the victim's front, passenger side door frame.
According to Kelly, authorities are seeking for "a newer model, red pickup vehicle with an extended cab" driven by two white guys.
According to Kelly, the incident started on Brick Boulevard when the pickup truck continued to pass the victim and "brake checked him many times as they went along Route 70 east." Brake checking is when a driver in front of another car repeatedly slams on the brake in an attempt to alert the driver behind them that they are following too closely or simply to annoy them.
The pickup truck passed the victim at a red traffic signal at the Route 88 intersection, and one of the suspects opened fire, Kelly said.
The vehicle was last spotted driving east on Route 70 while speeding through many red lights. He stated the victim lost sight of the car around Olden Street.
The suspects were characterized as being in their late twenties to early thirties by police.
According to police, officers rushed to the interchange at 7:45 p.m. Saturday for a complaint of "shots fired" and began an investigation that lasted until around 9:52 p.m. Saturday. In an email advisory, motorists were requested to avoid the area while the authorities worked.
According to Kelly, the victim also called 911 to report the crime, and Brick officers met him at his residence.
“We are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or the suspect vehicle, or from anyone with a working dashcam who was traveling on Brick Boulevard south and Route 70 east between the hours of 7:35 p.m. and 7:55 p.m., and may have captured footage,” Kelly said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Brick police Detective Ryan Talty at 732-262-1170 or email him at rtalty@brickpd.com.
