According to the NJ State Police, on August 14, 2022 in Point Pleasant, numerous troopers saved 11 people from a sinking ship.

A vessel in distress was spotted in the Point Pleasant Canal at at 4:24 p.m. by Sergeant First Class Christopher Kochman, along with Troopers Michael Sugzda, Kristofer Buonomo, Francis Morris, and Luke Drazdik of the Point Pleasant Station.

The 21-foot Sea Ray that took on three significant waves over its bow started to absorb water as the troopers got closer to the boat. Seven children and four adults were physically helped from the river onto a State Police boat by the troopers, who then started providing emergency aid. They were then taken to safety. As a result of the occurrence, no injuries were reportedly sustained.

The NJ State Police wants to remind everyone to wear a personal flotation device when on the water.
