Steven Adams, 23, Faces up to 5 years in Jail
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office announced Wednesday that a Jackson Township man admitted to throwing a Seaside Park man off a motel balcony in November.
Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said Steven Adams, 23, pled guilty to aggravated assault before Ocean County Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan on Tuesday in an incident that occurred Nov. 15 in Seaside Park.
Adams is set to be sentenced on April 8, with prosecutors requesting a five-year sentence, subject to the No Early Release Act, according to Billhimer.
When police were summoned at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15, they found Chad Atwood, 42, on the pavement at the Desert Palm Inn, according to the prosecutor. According to authorities, Atwood was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment of critical injuries.
Adams and Atwood, who were both staying at the Desert Palm Inn, got into a confrontation in the parking lot that spilled over into the second-floor balcony, according to investigators. According to authorities, Adams charged at Atwood and shoved him over the balcony railing, causing him to tumble to the ground.
Adams was arrested and has been held at the Ocean County Jail since that day, Billhimer said.
Assistant Prosecutor Kimberly Carr handled the case, and Billhimer praised Seaside Park Police Department for their investigation.
