According to investigators, the accused student struck the student who was riding a bicycle in a crosswalk while driving at a fast pace.
A Brick Memorial student died Tuesday morning when he was hit by a speeding car as he rode his bicycle over the Lanes Mill Road in a crosswalk about a half-mile from school, authorities said.

The adolescent driving the car has been charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash resulting in death, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

The prosecutor's office did not release the driver's name because he is a minor, Billhimer said. It was not immediately clear whether he is a student at Brick Memorial as well.

On May 19, 2026, at approximately 6:50 a.m., Officers from the Brick Township Police Department responded to the area of Lanes Mill Road and Rhode Island Avenue for a report of a bicyclist having been struck by a motor vehicle.

Responding Officers discovered that a vehicle had struck a juvenile bicyclist in the roadway and then fled the scene. The juvenile victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The prosecutor's office reported that the accident occurred at approximately 6:50 a.m. on Lanes Mill Road. The teenager on the bicycle was crossing Lanes Mill in a westbound direction at Rhode Island Avenue when he was struck by a 2021 BMW, which authorities indicated was moving at a high speed while heading north on Lanes Mill.

The juvenile victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to the prosecutor's office, the driver failed to stop, offer assistance, or inform law enforcement, and it was established that the driver is a minor.

Billhimer stated that he is currently being held at the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.
