The Toms River Police Department’s Public Safety Cadet Unit #137 is Currently Seeking Applicants

Available for Students Ages 14-20 Years of Age Interested in Law Enforcement

The Public Safety Cadet Unit #137 of the Toms River Police Department is presently accepting applications! The Public Safety Cadet program is a youth mentorship program that aims to provide information, skills, and practical experience to students interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.

Cadets attend bi-weekly Monday night sessions where they learn about police enforcement and help at different township activities. Cadets can engage in "ride alongs" with patrol officers to receive a firsthand glimpse at what a Toms River patrol officer does on a daily basis.

Some highlights of cadet training are:
  • Firearms / Computer based scenarios
  • Arrest search and seizure
  • Domestic Violence Response
  • Bomb Threat response
  • Responding to Burglaries and robberies in progress
  • High Risk Motor Vehicle stops
  • Police Physical Fitness Test
  • CPR certification / First Aid training
  • Cadets can also compete in state and national conferences, competing against cadets from all around the country. Our Cadet Unit recently competed in the National Public Safety Cadet Competition in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Cadets must be 14 to 20 years old, however they must apply before their 18th birthday.

Applications can be picked up at the Toms River Police Department
255 Oak Avenue Toms River NJ
