Toms River Family Trapped in Aruba Finally Heading Home Thanks to the Help of So Many People

Toms River Family Received the Help They Needed

On May 10, Jamie Greene from Toms River and her three children, and her boyfriend boarded a plane to Aruba. Elijah, her son, who has low-functioning, non-verbal autism, had travelled to Florida and back in 2016, and had handled the flight to Aruba with ease, but he refused to board the flight home on May 17.

The United Airlines flight crew was helpful, according to Greene, but Elijah refused to sit in his seat for departure. They had to disembark, and he was not going to take another flight. After several days of consideration, family and friends contributed $33,000 for the use of an air ambulance – an emergency medical transport trip — but the firm pulled out, claiming safety concerns.

With the help of so many people and the autism community, on Tuesday, May 31st, Jamie and Elijah should begin their journey home.

The outpouring of support has left the family speechless. The previous week and a half has been a roller coaster of emotions.

Jamie and Elijah have been granted complimentary passage on their forthcoming vacation from Aruba to Miami by Carnival Cruise Line. The yacht will leave on Tuesday and arrive in Miami on Sunday, June 5. From there, Jamie and Elijah will drive home.

According to Jaimie Greens facebook, she added, “So many amazing people helped us get to this point.”
