Raider Pantry Opens in Memory of Aidan Inteso
According to Toms River Schools the Raider Pantry at High School East opened on February 2, 2023, providing students with food, clothing, and everyday supplies.
Aside from being a vital resource for students in need, the pantry's 2023 opening was made all the more meaningful by financial support from the Aidan Inteso Memorial Foundation. The nonprofit is named after a former HSE student and hockey player who died tragically a few years ago. A Game for Aidan, a benefit hockey game, is held annually in his honor, and the foundation has carried on his legacy at East and throughout the community.
So much so that the school felt it was appropriate and necessary to express gratitude to the Aidan Inteso Memorial Foundation for their support of the pantry, as well as to acknowledge Aidan's ongoing impact on the school. Aidan's family was given a plaque that reads, "In Appreciation of the Aidan M. Inteso Memorial Foundation for Their Generous Donations that have made The Raider Pantry Possible." "In Loving Memory of Aidan Inteso, Class of 2020," reads the plaque, which includes a photo of Aidan holding his hockey stick.
The plaque will serve as a reminder of his goodwill for a space with the same mission as the Raider Pantry.
In fact, the foundation's contribution will go beyond simply stocking the shelves. The 18-21-year-old students receiving special services at High School East are in charge of purchasing and stocking the pantry. Trips to ShopRite and other stores, for example, teach them life skills such as itemizing, budgeting, and interpersonal communication.
"The Aidan Inteso Memorial Foundation's support for the Raider Pantry, like Aidan himself, will touch the lives of many people both directly and indirectly," said Principal Erin Anders.
For the grand opening, Anders was joined by East Ambassadors, hockey players, students, and staff, as well as Aidan's family. Allison Goodwin of East took the photos below.
