According to the Toms River Police Department, an organized vehicle theft ring has targeted the whole tri-state area. In 2022, approximately 433 vehicles were stolen in New Jersey alone. The majority of them were done in broad daylight, and they were all unlocked.

Thieves are familiar with the telltale signs of an unlocked vehicle. Since Christmas, six high-end vehicles have been stolen in Toms River. With the key fob inside the vehicle, they all unlocked.
