Tragic Accident Claims Life of 15-Year-Old Lenape High School Freshman
According to the Lenape Regional High School District, a 15-year-old student at Lenape High School passed away on Sunday after being struck by a car while walking down a road. In a message to the school community on Wednesday, Principal Tony Cattani stated, "Our Lenape Family suffered a devastating loss today with the passing of student
Jude Gill, a well-respected and valued member of our freshman class."
Officers were called to the 1400 block of Church Street at approximately 8:30 p.m. in response to a complaint of a car accident involving a pedestrian.
Following the accident, Gill was transported to
Cooper Hospital.
The 29-year-old driver remained at the scene and assisted authorities, according to Mount Laurel Police.
Gill was "Very amiable." He became buddies with all of them. Chris Beeler, the president of Mt. Laurel Basketball and his former coach, told NBC, "He was simply a good kid."
From kindergarten to the eighth grade, the 15-year-old participated in the Mount Laurel basketball program.
In a social media statement on Wednesday, the group paid tribute to him, referring to Gill as "a teammate" and "a buddy."
Additionally, the memorial noted that "Coaches, teammates, and families will remember his energy, his love for the game, and the way he showed up for those around him."
To assist with Gill's family's burial and hospital expenses, a
fundraiser has been organized.
Already, over $100,000 has been raised.
This week, Burlington County and other schools in the district will provide counseling services to help staff and students.
