Woman is in Critical Condition After Colliding with a Garbage Truck in Toms River

Anna Zybura, 37 Years Old

According to authorities, a woman from Keansburg is in severe condition after her car collided with a garbage truck near Garfield and Windsor avenues in the East Dover neighborhood on Tuesday morning.

According to Jillian Messina, a spokeswoman for the Toms River Police Department, Anna Zybura, 37, was driving north on Garfield Avenue when she allegedly failed to observe a stop sign at the crossing and was struck by a sanitation truck driving west on Windsor Avenue.

According to Messina, Zybura did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

She suffered “severe head trauma and additional injuries” as a result of the impact, Messina explained.

Police were dispatched to the scene about 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, she said.

Zybura was flown by helicopter to the regional trauma center at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where she was classified in serious condition on Tuesday evening, according to Messina.

According to her, the garbage truck driver did not sustain any injuries.

Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Mark Nater of the Toms River Police Department is investigating the circumstances of the incident.
