Strong Storms Could Sweep Across New Jersey Thursday: Here is What to Expect

Garden State residents should prepare for another round of sporadic storms and wind throughout the week, following the severe thunderstorms that covered areas of New Jersey over the weekend.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting possible scattered showers and storms overnight and into Wednesday, despite the fact that New Jerseyans will enjoy bright skies and temperatures in the high 70s to low 80s on Tuesday.

Forecasters predicted there won't be any strong storms, but people might get some rain.
The NWS predicted that after Wednesday's rain, Thursday will be hotter and windier (with gusts of 30 to 40 mph), with a chance of sporadic severe storms.

Friday's temps will be in the low 80s, and South Jersey may get showers.

Storm Chances Return Thursday as Heat and Gusty Winds Build Across New Jersey

New Jersey residents should keep an eye on the sky Thursday as unsettled weather returns with the potential for scattered showers and thunderstorms developing later in the day.

Forecasters say conditions will stay mostly cloudy throughout Thursday, with temperatures climbing to around 88 degrees, creating a warm and humid atmosphere across much of the state. While the morning and early afternoon may remain relatively quiet, the weather pattern is expected to become more active after 2 p.m., when thunderstorms become increasingly possible.
The possibility of severe thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon and evening is still being monitored by forecasters. As a cold front moves through the state on Thursday, high temperatures will rise to the upper 80s to mid-90s, creating the conditions for strong thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

Even before the thunderstorms, gusts of up to 40 mph are likely as the winds pick up throughout the day.

Wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph are possible throughout the storms, according to AccuWeather's forecast.

All of New Jersey is at a level 2 of 5 danger for severe weather on Thursday, according to the Storm Prediction Center. The biggest danger is damaging winds.

Forecasters from the National Weather Service expressed doubt on the cold front's timing and the possibility of thunderstorms.

Friday may see more showers and thunderstorms before the weather progressively gets better, with highs in the 80s. With highs in the 80s on both days, the early weekend forecast appears to be bright and sunny.

Thursday is predicted to have a high risk rip currents at Jersey Shore beaches.
Rain chances currently stand at 50 percent, meaning not everyone will see storms, but residents should be prepared for periods of heavy downpours, lightning, and brief bursts of strong wind if storms develop.

Anyone with outdoor plans Thursday afternoon or evening should monitor updated forecasts and have a backup indoor option available.

Stay weather aware as changing conditions could impact travel, outdoor activities, and evening events across New Jersey.
