Mother Nature may have a special treat in store for us this Halloween weekend, according to the Space Weather Prediction Center. A geomagnetic storm is expected to make the Northern Lights visible in New Jersey on Saturday night and maybe Sunday night, according to forecasters.
According to the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, a strong geomagnetic storm watch is in effect through Saturday, while a moderate geomagnetic storm watch is in effect through Sunday.
On Saturday, the storm was generated by a coronal mass ejection from the sun, which was classified as a "G3" on the Space Weather Prediction Center's five-point scale. On Sunday, the storm was classified as a "G2."
In New Jersey, the storm should be strong enough to see the Northern Lights. Viewers would need a respite from the anticipated cloudy and rainy skies, as well as a hunt for light-polluted areas.
