Pearl Could Be Worth Thousands
After discovering a pearl potentially worth thousands of dollars in a restaurant clam, a New Jersey couple may have feasted their way to prosperity.
According to the
NY Post , Michael and Maria Spressler were eating at the famous Lobster House restaurant when he discovered the gem in his mouth.
According to the NJ.com report, Michael Spressler and his wife Maria were dining at the
Lobster House, an iconic Cape May restaurant, during Presidents Day weekend, when Michael bit down on what he thought was a stone.
The pearl was discovered when he removed the object out of his mouth, according to the report. He told NJ.com that he is trying to determine the worth of the pearl, which was 8.85 millimeters in diameter, or slightly under a half-inch.
Michael Spressler told CBS 3 Philadelphia that he discovered the pearl in the final clam of a dozen half-shell clams he purchased as an appetizer.
Maria Spressler told the news station that she hoped to have the pearl put in jewelry as a memento of the occasion, which was the 34th anniversary of the couple's first visit to the restaurant.
According to the experts at the Pearl Source website, the sea stone may sell for anywhere from $50 to $100,000 depending on the body of water it came from.
