According to the Toms River Police Department, officers were summoned to Route 37 near the intersection of Roosevelt Ave on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at around 7:30 p.m. for a reported motor vehicle accident.
Nicholas Cacciapaglia, 24, of Toms River, was learning to ride a Harley motorcycle in the Ocean County Power Sports parking lot when he lost control, hit a curb, and entered Route 37.

Mr. Cacciapaglia's bike went down on Route 37, and he slid into the middle lane, where he was hit by a passing vehicle driven by Domenic Maruca, 62, of Toms River. Mr. Cacciapaglia was declared dead on the spot.
No symptoms of impairment were found, and no summons was issued. Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Ryan Fitzgerald is still investigating the accident.
