Ortley Beach Fire

Ortley Beach, NJ

Three homes in the Ortley Beach neighborhood of Toms River's northern barrier island are uninhabitable after an early morning car fire spread to three dwellings.

According to Toms River Police Spokeswoman Jillian Messina, police and fire units were dispatched to Fielder Avenue about 12:20 a.m. on February 4, 2022 for a suspected vehicle fire.

The Seaside Heights Fire Chief was already on the scene when officers arrived, and two automobiles were completely engulfed in flames.

The Seaside Heights and Ocean Beach fire companies responded along with Toms River Police patrol units. The Seaside Heights Fire Chief reported that a well involved vehicle fire in the driveway between 38 Fielder Ave and 32 Fielder Ave had extended into the structure at 38 Fielder Ave and was burning on the side of 32 Fielder Ave. The fire was upgraded to a 2nd alarm plus two additional engine companies. The fire was declared under control at approximately 2 AM by Chief Calvo from the Ocean Beach Fire Company who was the incident commander.

The residence at 38 Fielder Avenue was severely damaged by fire on all floors , as well as the residents' two vehicles in the driveway.

The residence at 44 Fielder Avenue suffered damage to the exterior wall and attic space along with severe damage to a Kia Soul that was parked in the driveway.

The house at 32 Fielder received damage to the exterior wall along with smoke throughout the interior. The homeowner at 38 Fielder Avenue was able to escape the fire without any injuries. No other injuries were reported.
