Eyewitness News ABC7 Reports From Cedar Grove Elementary School in Toms River, NJ Regarding COVID-19

Eyewitness News at Cedar Grove Elementary School for Covid Outbreak

Hundreds of pupils are out of class due to COVID-19 in Toms River, according to Eyewitness News, either because they tested positive for the virus or because of quarantine, according to the school district website.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the district has confirmed illnesses for 223 pupils and 33 employees. Those data reflect total instances since the start of the school year, not active infections. There are currently 864 kids and 26 staff members in quarantine.

"The amount of pupils in quarantine - which, again, includes those who recently reported testing positive - represents six percent of our student body," the district said in a statement.

Despite the fact that the district made masks optional in buildings and places without air conditioning at the start of the year, they have been mandatory in all locations since September 20.
