For Stabbing his Father to Death, a Brick Youngster was Sentenced to 11 Years in Juvie

11 Years in the Custody of the NJ Juvenile Justice Commission

After pleading guilty to aggravated manslaughter for the stabbing death of his father, a 15-year-old Brick boy was sentenced this week to 11 years in the custody of the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

While jailed at the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center in Toms River, Ibrahim Khater was sentenced to concurrent terms for two charges of aggravated assault and "throwing bodily fluids at a law enforcement officer."

Khater's probation for an unrelated robbery allegation, to which he had all previously pleaded guilty, was also terminated by State Superior Court Judge Kimarie Rahill, according to a statement released by the Prosecutor's Office on Thursday.

The death of Mohammed Khater, 38, of Brick, took place on Jan. 16. About 2:45 p.m., Brick police officers went to a home on Herbertsville Road in the township, in response to a 911 call about a stabbing.

The officers found Mohammed Khater with a stab wound to the right side of his abdomen. He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, the regional trauma center, where he died of his injuries.

Detectives from the Prosecutor's Office's Major Crime Unit, the Ocean County Sheriff's Office's Crime Site Investigation (CSI) Unit, and the Brick Township Police Department all arrived at the scene.

Investigators, on the other hand, quickly identified Ibrahim Khater as a suspect.

The boy was apprehended and transferred to a juvenile detention institution, where he has stayed since his arrest, according to the statement.

On behalf of the state of New Jersey, Assistant Prosecutor Madeline Buczynski and Chief Juvenile Attorney Anthony Pierro oversaw the case.
