Heavy Rain, Fierce Thunderstorms Prompt Flood Watch Across Much of New Jersey
As utility companies attempt to restore massive power outages, several rounds of intense thunderstorms are predicted to slam the state, prompting the issuance of flood watches for 17 New Jersey counties beginning this afternoon.
The
National Weather Service stated early on Sunday that "there is high confidence in the likelihood for flash flooding today into Monday." "It is conceivable for rainfall rates to exceed two inches per hour."
Following this weekend's storms and intense heat, over 120,000 households and businesses are still without power as of Sunday morning. Restoration operations could be hampered by another round of afternoon storms.
According to the weather service, "damaging wind gusts may result in felled trees and wires leading to power outages this afternoon."
The counties of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, and Union are under a flood watch starting at noon today and lasting until early Tuesday.
Camden, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Salem, Somerset, Sussex, Warren, northwest Burlington, and western Monmouth counties are under a flood watch from 2 p.m. today until 8 p.m. on Monday. Check the up-to-date
weather forecast.
