Knife-Wielding Threat in Road Rage Incident in Ocean County

According to Brick Township Police Department, on Monday, March 5th, 2024 at approximately 3pm, Brick Township Patrolman Peter Bylsma was flagged down in the area of Mantoloking Rd. and Dock Rd.

Ptl. Bylsma was advised by the victim he had been involved in a road rage incident and had been threatened with a knife. Multiple officers responded to the scene.

The victim advised officers he was traveling on Mantoloking Road when he was cut off by a vehicle and honked his horn. The suspect exited his vehicle and threatened the victim with a folding knife and began banging on his window and the side of his vehicle. The victim was able to leave the scene of the incident safely and provide Ptl. Bylsma with a vehicle description, partial license plate and identifiable characteristics for the suspect.

At 4:40 pm, Patrolman McGrath was on patrol in the area of 7-11, located on Mantoloking Road, when he observed a vehicle matching the description provided.

Patrolman McGrath approached the vehicle and began speaking with the male occupant, Jake McMahon. McMahon appeared to have bloody knuckles on both hands.

McMahon, 26 years old from Brick, admitted to being involved in the incident and was charged with terroristic threats 2C:12-3B, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose 2C:39-4D, and unlawful possession a weapon 2C:39-5D. He was taken to police headquarters, processed and released with a future court date.
