Under Investigation

Pedestrian Struck by a Motor Vehicle

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office announced Tuesday afternoon that a New York man died Monday night when he was struck by an automobile as he crossed Whitesville Road.

A 2021 Chevrolet Camaro being operated by Scott McIvor, Jr., 22, of Jackson struck Howard Dasheff, 67, of Brooklyn, around 8:45 p.m. on Whitesville Road close to Jumping Brook Drive, according to prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

After being transported to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, Dasheff passed away from his wounds, according to Billhimer.

Investigators discovered that Dasheff was not utilizing a designated crosswalk when he was struck and was dressed in dark attire. There are crosswalks along Jumping Brook Drive; the distance Dasheff was from the crosswalk when he was struck was not disclosed by the authorities.

McIvor remained at the scene following the collision but sustained no bodily injuries, according to Billhimer. The prosecutor claimed that he displayed no overt evidence of impairment.

The Vehicular Homicide Unit of the prosecutor's office, Toms River police, and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit of the Ocean County Sheriff's Office are still looking into the collision.
