Ocean County Sheriff

Updated: Officer Brian Stockhoff, 41, of the Ocean County Sheriff's Department, Died at the Site of the Crash on Shorrock Street, According to Authorities

According to Lakewood police, an off-duty Ocean County Sheriff's Department deputy died in a crash early Monday on Shorrock Street near the Lakewood-Brick Township boundary.

Lakewood Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith said Officer Brian Stockhoff, 41, of Jackson, died at the scene from his injuries.

A passing car reported the incident to police at 3:45 a.m., according to Staffordsmith. Stockhoff was driving a 2005 Toyota Sienna south on Shorrock Street toward Beaverson Boulevard when first responders discovered him. The Sienna collided with a brick wall outside of Leisure Village East and came to a stop near Dumbarton Drive, according to Staffordsmith.

Officer Tymur Zavalnyuk of Lakewood and Brick Township police officers responded, and the road was closed for more than five hours.

For kids at Lake Riviera Middle School, which is just a short distance from the incident site, the crash investigation and cleanup caused a two-hour delay.

Investigators from the Lakewood Police Department Traffic Safety Unit and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office are still working on the case, according to Staffordsmith.
