Warmest Wishes Winter Coat Drive

Warmest Wishes Winter Coat Drive, sponsored by the United Way of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, helped Toms River Regional Schools children for the second year in a row.

Hundreds of winter coats were donated to students at South Toms River, Cedar Grove, and Walnut Street Elementary Schools by the non-profit.

Dennis Holzapfel, Principal of South Toms River Elementary School thanked United Way for their generous donation of 75 coats. “They will definitely be keeping our students warm this winter,” he said.

The coats were picked up by district head of custodial services Harry Staples and his colleague Mike Wilkoski yesterday at the UPS pickup site in Tinton Falls, where they were treated to free coffee and donuts. The coats were subsequently delivered to each school, much to the delight of both staff and pupils.

“Our school counselor, ESL teachers and school nurses were thrilled to serve as Santa’s elves to deliver these much needed coats to our students,” said Cedar Grove Principal Stacey Monetti. “Once again, UWMOC’s partnership is enriching the lives of our young ‘Proud Patriots!’”

UWMOC stated on its website that their 2021 Warmest Wishes Coat Drive exceeded its goal, donating more than 3,300 coats to local children.

"The United Way's gift is greatly appreciated by the Walnut Street Elementary School community," stated Principal Kevin McCann. "All of the work that the Warmest Wishes coat drive does to keep our children warm this winter is truly appreciated by our families."

The district expresses its gratitude to its community partner for their continued contribution.
