Prepare for Stormy Weather: NJ Faces Heavy Rain and Gusty Winds

Thunderstorms, Flash Flooding Headed for New Jersey Again

New Jersey residents should prepare for another round of unsettled weather as thunderstorms capable of producing torrential rain and flash flooding are expected to move across the state.

Forecasters say warm, humid air combined with an approaching weather system will create favorable conditions for scattered to widespread thunderstorms. Some storms could become strong, bringing heavy downpours, frequent lightning, gusty winds, and localized flooding.

The greatest concern is the potential for excessive rainfall in a short period of time. Areas that received significant rain earlier this week may be especially vulnerable, as saturated ground and overwhelmed storm drains can quickly lead to flooding on roads, in low-lying neighborhoods, and near small streams and creeks.
While not every community will experience severe weather, any thunderstorm will have the potential to produce brief but intense rainfall capable of causing flash flooding. Urban areas, locations with poor drainage, and flood-prone roadways face the highest risk.

New Jerseyans are encouraged to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive watches and warnings. If a Flash Flood Warning is issued for your area, move to higher ground immediately and avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary.

The unsettled weather pattern is expected to continue into the coming days, with additional chances for showers and thunderstorms before drier conditions eventually return. Check the latest forecast.
