Toms River Crash: Teen Involvement Injures Uber Driver and Passenger

According to Toms River Township, a young motorist driving with her learner's permit lost control of the car she was driving and collided with an Uber rideshare vehicle on Route 9 on Friday.

Stilton reported that the preliminary inquiry by the police revealed that the driver, a 17-year-old whose identity remained undisclosed, was traveling in the car with another 17-year-old. The sedan almost collided with another car traveling south on Route 9 as it emerged from the driveway in the 1900 block of that street.

The vehicle collided with another vehicle, which was being driven as an Uber ridesharing vehicle, when the 17-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle and entered the northbound lanes, according to a spokesperson for Toms River.

According to Phil Stilton, the Uber driver had bruises to her knees and chest. The female passenger in that car had a facial injury, a head wound, and what looks to be lower body paralysis, among other critical but non-life-threatening injuries.

It wasn't immediately apparent if the police had brought any charges. Stilton reported that when the driver's father arrived at the scene, he informed the police that his daughter had been given permission to use the car to pick up her mother from work.
