Two Homes Destroyed By Fire in Brick Township

Brick Township Fire

Brick 3-Alarm Fire

A major fire destroyed two waterfront homes on Bay Way

According to Brick Township Police Department, a large three-alarm fire in the Bay Harbor area on Monday destroyed one beachfront home and severely damaged another.

On Monday, a burning on Bay Way about 3:30 p.m. prompted a major response from firefighters, EMS staff, and law enforcement authorities. Requests for additional people and equipment, including fire boats, came in from all around the region as firefighters battled the blaze in heavy wind gusts.

According to police, one firefighter received minor burns as a result of the blaze. Both estates are located on the Brick side of Barnegat Bay's South Branch Kettle Creek.

Sgt. Jim Kelly, a spokesperson for the Brick Township Police Department, said the original call brought first responders to the house at 31 Bay Way, where strong smoke and flames caused a resident to evacuate.

The fire subsequently extended to the upper portion of the second house at 29 Bay Way, as well as another area on the property, according to Kelly.

The Pioneer Hose, Breton Woods, Laurelton, and Herbertsville fire companies from Brick Township all responded to the blaze, he added.

The blaze was also responded to by the Toms River fire companies of Silverton and East Dover, as well as borough fire crews from Point Pleasant and Point Pleasant Beach.

The Brick Police Department's EMS division was also on the scene.

According to Kelly, the township's fire houses were covered by the Jackson and Lakewood fire companies, while Brick firefighters were completely engaged in tackling the Bay Way fire.

Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, the Brick Police Detective Bureau, and the Brick Fire Safety Bureau are investigating the fire, he added.

Brick Fire Safety Bureau Chief Kevin Batzel can be reached at 732-458-4100 if anyone has information concerning the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
