Two People Were Injured

According to the Manchester Police Department, they responded to the intersection of State Highway 37 and Colonial Drive on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at approximately 8:30 a.m. to investigate a motor vehicle incident involving two vehicles that collided near the intersection.

Officers arrived to find a silver 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis with severe rear end damage in the westbound lanes of State Highway 37, as well as a black 2018 Chevrolet Colorado with extensive front end damage in the westbound lanes. The Chevrolet was traveling west on State Highway 37 when it collided with the Mercury, which was stopped at a red traffic signal, according to the inquiry.

Jayna Deshay, 30, of Browns Mills, was injured as a result of partial ejection caused by not wearing a seatbelt during the collision. Deshay was then transferred to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by Manchester Township Division of Emergency Service EMTs for treatment and evaluation of her injuries, where she is presently listed in stable condition.

Jaimie Hom, 38, of Toms River, the Mercury's driver, was also taken to Jersey Shore University Medical for treatment and examination of non-life threatening injuries.

While officers began their investigation, the intersection was partially stopped, causing traffic delays. Although the investigation into this collision is still underway, inattentive driving appears to be the key contributing cause at this time. Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department and Manchester Volunteer Fire Department firefighters, as well as Manchester Township Division of Emergency Service EMTs, Jackson Township EMTs, and Robert Wood Johnson paramedics, all assisted at the incident. Patrolman Keith Douglas of the department's Traffic Safety unit is investigating the accident.
