Wind Fueled Flames Ravage Two Homes in Ocean County
On Thursday afternoon, a wind-driven fire in Point Pleasant Borough caused damage to two homes. Dozens of emergency personnel responded to the site, battling heat, flames, and downed power lines.
On June 18, at around 2:45 p.m., the
Point Pleasant Borough Fire Department received a complaint of a structure fire near Sunrise Avenue and Shady Glenn Avenue. Within minutes of arriving, Deputy Chief 7510 discovered two residences severely damaged by fire and live power lines across the street, prompting a second alarm.
Soon after, Chief 7500 showed in and assumed control of the situation.
In addition to fighting the fire, firefighters started shielding surrounding residences from its spread. The fire was elevated to a third alarm due to the extreme heat and strong winds, which brought more firemen, equipment, and support services to the area.
According to officials, the fire was limited to the two residences. There were no reported injuries.
For around three and a half hours, firefighters stayed on the site. The scene was turned over to the Ocean County Fire Marshall’s Office and the Point Pleasant Borough Police Department for the fire investigation.
