Toms River East Wins 3-1 and Advances to the Little League Metro Region Championship

TRELL Advances to Metro Region Championship

One Victory Away from the Little League World Series

Toms River East is currently just one victory away from realizing its goal of making a second consecutive trip to the Little League World Series.

The 12-year-old champions from New Jersey are fighting hard to reach  Williamsport, Pennsylvania.  They defeated Fairfield, CT on Wednesday nightwith a 3-1 victory in the Metro Region semifinal at the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Leadership Training Center.

A trip to the World Series, which would be Toms River East's seventh, is at stake in Friday's (7 p.m.) final game versus Massapequa (N.Y.) Coast thanks to the victory, which was fueled by a two-run home run by winning pitcher Logan Macchia.

With the exception of two batters, Macchia faced every batter and gave the Connecticut champs four hits. In the second inning, Fairfield loaded the bases with no outs, but he was able to come out of it without allowing a run, maintaining a 2-0 advantage.

Toms River East was defeated by Massapequa Coast in the first game of the region on Saturday, losing the game 6-3 after seven innings. However, they survived the double-elimination tournament owing to a valiant 3-2 victory over Rhode Island champions Cumberland on Sunday.

Next game will be Friday, August 12 at 7 pm, vs. New York--Massapequa Coast LL at Bristol, CT
